We are pleased to share our 2019 impact report, which shows how we worked together to increase our positive impact on the environment, our communities, and our workplace.
Optoro’s mission is to make retail more sustainable by eliminating waste from returns and excess goods—including landfill waste and unnecessary CO2 emissions, as well as operational and financial waste. Our technology uses data science to help retailers route returns to their next best homes, allowing them to reduce that avoidable waste.
In 2019 we helped our clients achieve the following:
- 8.5 million pounds of carbon emissions avoided by reducing transportation and increasing efficiency in the reverse supply chain
- $6.9 million of inventory donated through charity partners
- 2.6 million pounds of product waste diverted from landfills
On average, our clients kept 96% of their returned and excess inventory out of landfills.
Our impact report highlights many of the ways Optoro gave back to our communities in 2019. We fulfilled our pledge to spend 1% of our time volunteering in our communities, spending almost 4,000 hours volunteering with over 170 organizations across the US. We picked up trash in wetlands, put together school supplies for kids, prepared meals in food banks, and so much more.
We’re proud of our employees’ commitment to our communities each year, and we are excited to continue this commitment in 2020.
In 2019, we achieved an 84% company-wide recycling rate by prioritizing recycling and reuse while implementing a compost program in our DC headquarters. We also passed a new Sustainable Sourcing Policy which included the elimination of single use plastics in our office.
Our Diversity & Inclusion Committee continued to meet biweekly to make Optoro an organization where all people of different identities and backgrounds feel valued, safe, and included. We hosted a variety of D&I events including Pride Week, volunteering opportunities, and new microaggressions training.
We look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together in 2020! Learn more by checking out the 2019 Impact Report!
