Optoro is made up of a diverse collection of individuals who have come together to achieve a single mission–to transform the reverse logistics industry by finding homes for used and excess goods. We like to highlight that diversity with our Employee Spotlight blog series, during which we sit down with an employee every month to hear a little bit about the people who make the Optoro culture so distinctive.
How would you describe yourself in 10 keywords or fewer?
Social butterfly, ESFJ, excited, type A, attentive, Scorpio, generous, travel-enthusiast, intense, lover of all things Maydan.
What is your role at Optoro, and what do you do?
At Optoro, I am a Corporate Marketing Manager responsible for all account-based marketing, field marketing, event marketing and sustainability marketing. I work cross-functionally with many teams, especially sales. It’s so exciting to see how our marketing efforts can positively affect deal cycles and translate to revenue for the company.
What did you do before Optoro, and why did you choose to work at Optoro?
Before Optoro, I worked at Juniper Networks, an engineering firm focused on routing, switching and security based out of Silicon Valley. I was working in our Federal vertical and wanted to change to an industry that was more relatable to my life. I found Optoro and was drawn in by the passion the employees feel not only for the company but for its mission!
What is the most important thing you have learned since starting at Optoro?
That cheddar whales are better than Goldfish. Shoutout to our office operations team for always getting us the best snacks!
In all seriousness, it’s that working in a startup environment means not being afraid to jump in and help, even if it’s outside your job description. I’ve learned so much about other functions at our company this way and I think it’s helped make me a better marketer and employee.
What is the best part of working at Optoro?
My favorite thing about Optoro is definitely the people! That’s a pretty standard answer if you work here since we work with so much brilliant talent! If I had to choose something else though, I’d say the level of responsibility I’m given to directly impact the success of the company. Even if you are a junior employee or early on in your career, you are given the tools to feel empowered to make decisions and do work that matters. It’s extremely fulfilling to see your hard work pay off in tangible ways.
What would you most likely be doing on a normal Saturday afternoon in your free time?
Now that it’s fall (my favorite season!), my life is consumed by “the F’s”: family, friends, football and food! My family and I all went to BIG10 schools so over the weekend I’m constantly watching football with my friends and/or my family, while eating lots of great comfort food. And there’s usually a cozy fireplace involved too (another F).
