Optoro is made up of a diverse collection of individuals who have come together to achieve a single mission–to transform the reverse logistics industry by finding homes for used and excess goods. We like to highlight that diversity with our Employee Spotlight blog series, during which we sit down with an employee every month to hear a little bit about the people who make the Optoro culture so distinctive.

How would you describe yourself in 10 keywords or fewer?
ENFP/Leo Sun/Virgo Moon; joie de vivre, ever-amounting interests, perfectionist tendencies, spontaneous, big heart!

What is your role at Optoro, and what do you do?
I am our Office Operations and Events Associate. My role ranges from being the smiling face at the front desk to planning and executing events, to caring for the office and everyone in it! Within this range lives a continually evolving list of duties, all dependent on adaptability, quick problem-solving, a positive attitude, and a creative and empathetic mindset!

What did you do before Optoro, and why did you choose to work at Optoro?
Immediately before Optoro I was a Volunteer Outreach Coordinator and Lead Zip-Line Instructor for Go Ape. Before Go Ape, I was an Apprentice Nutrition Counselor. And before working in nutrition, I farmed trees in Vermont. And before tree farming I was a baker! I have enjoyed a great variety of work experiences!

I chose Optoro because of its reputation for caring for its employees, plus the opportunity to grow within an organization whose mission I believe in!

What is the most important thing you have learned since starting at Optoro?
Opportunities are abound if you’re willing to make an effort! If there’s something you’d like to sink your teeth into, make it known and folks will rally to support and enable your growth! This isn’t entirely unique to Optoro, but it’s not always the case and it is to be treasured!

What is the best part of working at Optoro?
People who care! Optoro is filled with cool, interesting, and different people, strung together by the common thread of truly caring about the mission, about the office environment, about the planet, and about each other. Being surrounded by people who care is hard to beat in a work setting.

What would you most likely be doing on a normal Saturday afternoon in your free time?
Depends on the weather! If it’s nice out, you’ll find me (plus my boyfriend and a rag-tag group of gentlemen) playing disc golf. If not, you’ll find me behind a pottery wheel, making music, concocting salves & tinctures, or playing DnD with my brother (and a second group of rag-tag gentlemen).
