Optoro is made up of a diverse collection of individuals who have come together to achieve a single mission—to transform the reverse logistics industry by finding homes for used and excess goods. We like to highlight that diversity with our Employee Spotlight blog series, during which we sit down with an employee every month to hear a little bit about the people who make the Optoro culture so distinctive.

How would you describe yourself in 10 keywords or fewer?
Honest, patient, sympathetic, supportive, helpful, ambitious, sincere, culinary, musical.

What is your role at Optoro, and what do you do?
I am an IT Support Specialist and I manage the wide spectrum of IT needs for our warehouse in Mt. Juliet, TN. From network administration to printer troubleshooting to security cameras and the systems that manage them, I oversee all IT functions.

What did you do before Optoro, and why did you choose to work at Optoro?
I was an event coordinator at the largest wholesale book distributor in the world, managing inventory and logistics for author and publisher events across the country.

I chose to join Optoro for the opportunity to not only do what I love (which is technology), but also because I believe in our vision to eliminate waste from returned goods. Having worked in retail, logistics, and technology, I love the work we do to merge and improve all three fields. Plus, when friends and family ask me what I do and who I work for, I get to tell them I support and empower people with technology so we can save the world a little more every day!

What is the most important thing you have learned since starting at Optoro?
That no matter the size or configuration of an organization, communication is critical. Even a smaller company like Optoro can struggle with mission direction and coordination between departments. We are all working towards the same goal, but without clear communication of needs and expectations things can fall through the cracks and cause panic. It takes people coming together and keeping each other in the know to execute effectively and make the best use of everyone’s talents.

What is the best part of working at Optoro?
Without a doubt, the people. Optoro has done an incredible job of bringing together a diverse group of talented and passionate people who each add tremendous value to our culture and our vision. Every day I am grateful for the amazing individuals I get to call my team.

What would you most likely be doing on a normal Saturday afternoon in your free time?
Streaming World of Warcraft or recording voice overs while playing with my cat, Karl.
